Hi all,

Trying to do some very basic bathroom faucet repair. The classic "dripping faucet." I'm slightly above rookie level when it comes to plumbing stuff. The internet showed me enough to take off the handle in the hopes of getting at the cartridge. But when I took off the handle, here's what I see:

I presume that I need to take off this nut in order to get at the cartridge. However, the nut is so tight, I can't budge it. Or at least, I'm worried something bad is going to happen if I put any more elbow grease into it. I've tried hard enough that the whole faucet began to shift in place.

Is there a reasonable way to loosen this, or should I just be considering a new faucet at this point?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
Just seen this post. I hope you managed to sort it out. I had this problem and had to get a socket and a metre long extension pole to budge it after applying a heat gun and loads of wd40. I must admit I nearly gave up on it as I was worried about snapping it. I think the WD40 must have done something as the cartridge was sealing fine again after. I couldn't get a replacement as the manufacturer said the tap is now obsolete.

Thanks for your reply. Nope, never managed to solve it. And like you, I'm worried about snapping it. It's also an older model, so I wouldn't be shocked to run into the same problem you had with the tap being obsolete. I'm suffering the drip right now until I decide whether to get a new faucet or not.

It maybe worth persevering with it. Try as I did with a soaking of WD40 and a heat gun. It did come out after the socket and bar was used. You may find that a good clean will do the job. Mine is still working fine 1 year on. Good luck

If you get it off using heat (even a torch), it looks like maybe an American Standard, Parts should be available. Caring using torch with wd-40. Does sink drain have a name on it?
