Sealing and preserving antique wood window

I found this antique wood window and I plan to use it in a treehouse. What product should I use to: A) seal the wood and, B) preserve the 'chipped paint' look?

If I was going to use the old window inside for a nice ornamental piece I would seal it with spray shellac to protect that shabby chic look, however as it seems yours will be out in the elements, I'm not too sure - hopefully someone will chime in - as I'm curious myself now!
