Rust effect paint on galvanised metal?

I have two new outdoor lights made of galvanised metal. Is it possible to use a rust effect paint on them? If it is, can anyone recommend which brand/type of paint I should use? Would I need to use a primer? Thanks.

@Silentrunning I hadn't considered the oil coat on the metal so that link is really useful.
@ralphhughes I've seen what ketchup does to old coins..powerful stuff!! I'll give it a go.
