Floors can be spotlessly clean and your feet/socks will be black after walking on for a short while........ and read that it was the fact that the vinyl contained aluminum oxide.

I'd cover it with sheet vinyl like was made several years ago. I have no idea about AL oxide but our socks have never been black, not even white socks.
