im looking to build a new garage onto the side of my house. I plan to have the gable turned opposite direction as that on my house. Im trying to decide on how to attach the garage trusses to the house. The two options I can come up with are: 1. remove the upstairs joist band board and let the new trusses rest on the top of that 2x6 wall plate, or 2. build a new wall parallel to the house wall. I like option 1, but my big issue with that is with this being a diy project and me only having weekends to work on it, im afraid of rain leaking into the house while the band board is removed. It could potentially take 2-4 weeks with it being exposed. Would just building a new wall beside my house and resting the trusses on it be a bad idea? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you!
