Fixing cable to exterior stone wall

Hi -
I'm running a cable round the outside of my house (ethernet cable to bring internet connection to my workshop).
It's a stone wall, I was going to pin cable clips straight into the mortar between stone, as it looks like this is how the existing phone line cable has been done, but predictably the mortar is hard to hammer pins into and then crumbles.
Has anyone got any good ideas for how to do this?

Hi Wilf,

I suggest you to try using a drill, or you can also use PVC trunking for this.
