Hi all I'm hoping someone might have some advice about this. We ordered a security door and had it installed by a door fitter with many years experience. The door came with two cylinder locks - one as standard and one upgraded one that we paid extra for. The standard one is 30/40 and the upgrade 35/40. The cheap standard fits, the upgrade doesn't. We contacted the door supplier and they said the upgrade is definitely the correct size and recommended jiggling about (not their words).
Our fitter spent days trying to get this lock to fit and eventually we bought three cheap locks to try out and discovered that a 35/45 fits perfectly! The problem with the upgraded 35/40 lock is that it doesn't protrude enough at the front so when you try and lock it the key catches the top of the hole in the handle unit and can't turn. We have actually now bought a better 35/45 (3 star kitemark) lock and the fitter is coming back to fit that next week. I was going to ask the door supplier for a refund for the 35/40 lock (and something towards the extra money we've paid the fitter) but it looks like they only supply 35/40 locks with their doors, so how can it be the wrong size? I hate mysteries so was hoping someone can shed some light on this. I can only think that maybe the door handle unit is incorrect and is too big in depth? I'd be very grateful for suggestions as this conundrum is keeping me awake at night! Thank you.
