I've never come accross it fortunately, but I know that if you do, you need to contact a specialist to remove it.

! How do you recognise asbestos when you see it?? As far as I know I've never come accross any, but I'd like to be in the know if I ever do! thanks

As far as I am aware, the stuff I have seen is a grey/ white hard material rough in texture. It is sometimes used in old roofs and is corrugated.

Do a google image search. Make sure you know what this nasty substance looks like.

It has a grey powdery texture, with small pieces, a bit like halva. We used to play with asbestos roof tiles as kids. Hey ho!

The Wikipedia article mr kensyard posted is right. But asbestos has its own pros and cons you just have to know where to use it in your home.
