Hi, i am going open my chimney so i can have a wood burner i recently took a photo of up my chimney can anyone tell me if that's a lintel in the picture it seems very low down . many thanks

What it looks like is a throat restrictor. It would sit on top of the front of the fire back, and have a curved section. The lintel would be above, or higher.
Quite right, you should be able to find the lintel above, although in a very old property it could be a brick arch. In any case with some plaster off it should be obvious.
