Hello i want to make the walls of this bathroom smoother. Is it just a matter of scraping away and repainting it. The wall has these bumps. Is it possible to tell if there is asbestos. I was reading that there are some special emulsion paints that are so thick that you cant paint the wall and they will fill in any bumps or gaps to make the wall look smoother. Is this a way to make the wall smoother without scraping anything off the walls. What could have caused the more larger bumps in the first picture ?

Any tome you paint over something not smooth, it will get less smooth. I’d scrape it. If it looks like asbestos, keep a spray bottle of water to keep it damp and not dusting round. When you get it OK, use a good primer to seal it all up. If you re going with a dark finish color use a dark primer

I don't know about asbestos, but you will definitely have to scrap all that off if you want it to be smoother looking. Painting it alone will not cover it up.
