fan for brick chimney

My fireplace keeps returning smoke especially when it is windy outside. Will placing an electrical fan inside the chimney with a switch help solve the smoking effect? The fan will need to be placed within the brick walls of the chimney- I assume close to the top. The shape of the brick chimney is rectangular and there is plenty of space inside it- i just do not like to have anything showing on the outside. Any recommendations will be much appreciated
