Hello. I’m attaching a picture of my guest bedroom ceiling fan. Is the hole around the base of the fan a problem? Could I buy a medallion thing to cover the hole?

You can always cover it if you want but I would first look into why it is there. If it is the result of a sloppy installation, that is one thing. If it is from a water leak or structure defect that could be a serious problem. Take the fan down and see what caused the hole. Then you can decide what to do.

I installed some new lights in a basement room where the new bases were smaller than the originals. There were similar messy cutouts so I cut circles from 1/8" hardboard, smoothed the edges a bit and painted them with ceiling paint. When I installed the new lights it looked OK. Not perfect but the job came out not too bad for not a lot of effort
