Greetings! I am putting ship lap up on the wall behind my bed. I'm using pine boards , sanded, applied pre-conditioner, then I applied a water based stain followed by a white wash. Do I need to polyurethane? Obviously this is not wood that will get any abuse, traffic, or wear and tear. Would I still need to apply the poly? Thanks!

Near the North Wall. Winter is coming...
No, and it might be a bad idea to do it. Right now, the finish you have on there is permeable...it is going to respond to changes in humidity in a fairly uniform way. If you poly one side, that side will not expand and contract, and the wood could "cup", with the back expanding more than the face.
But if your house stays pretty steady, as far as humidity goes...you could probably get away with poly with no problems, too.
