Attic fan motor replacement?

Years back, workmen put plastic over our attic fan vents and I believe burned out the attic fan motor. Immediately, my husband bought a replacement motor, but alas, he got sick and was never was able to complete the repair. I finally am getting to it.

I have watched videos, and I think with the circuit breaker off, I will attempt the fix.
However, I want to be clear in the steps, especially wiring. This fan has two on/off switches. One to turn on the fan continuously, and another one that is automatically temperature controlled…3rd on/off switch at top is for the attic light.

On the new motor, there are only two wires, black(with thin spade connector attached) and white. Are these the only wires I need to remove and replace? Leave all the extra wires as they are? Also, that very small spade connector is metal. Is bare metal ok? I’m assuming there must be a corresponding slot inside the thermostat for that black connector? Is there a trick to get old spade connector out?

I’m attaching pics of my fan, thermostat wiring and switch(top is separate light switch)…can anyone explain what the yellow and brown wires, and other wires are for?

I really hope to finish the repair my husband started if straight forward. I am confused by the many electrical wires, though. If I just keep track where the black and white new motor wires correspond to on the old motor, is that all I need to touch? I can’t see clearly from these pics which wires go together.

Any advice or directions would be much appreciated. Otherwise would I call an electrician for this? Handyman? I’m worried what the costs would be for outside help.
Thank you!
