Sprucing up stairs

Hi I have stairs that have blemishes in them, among other things that have them not looking great. How can I spruce these up without repairing as it’s strictly cosmetic issues?

I know you were talking about the treads, but if you paint them white and add tile to the front (extremely inexpensive), people REALLY go "wow!!"
