Any tips on how to remove the protective plastic film (firmly stuck) from wooden staircase?

Suggest??? VERY, VERY, gentle steaming.

if you expose the timber to too much steam the wood will react and possible distort.

If you use chemicals the wood will be affected and discoloured.

White spirit can be effective.
If you lift up part of the film and brush some white spirit in, it will soften most adhesives but isn't too powerful on paint etc.
Another effective method is to use a hot air gun to soften it up.
I worked for a company that liked to change it's looks every couple of years, so all the liveried vehicles had to be re-done.
The people doing the large fleet used heat guns to remove the old film

If it's a new staircase, ask the maker and/or installer.

If you don't, and whatever method you use, no matter how seemingly benign, damages it, the maker and/or installer will wash their hands of it.

If, OTOH, you do what they tell you to, they'll be liable if it damages it.
