New cistern coupling kit too thick.

I had the diaphragm in the syphon go in my close coupled toilet, so I replaced it. The metal coupling plate and washer were well past it, so I bought some replacements.

However, the original plate was completely flat, whereas the new one is raised up at the ends where the fixings go through. Plus, the new washer is about 4 or 5 times thicker than the old one.

This means that when I try and put it all back together, the water in pipe coming from the cistern isn't quite long enough to reach the pipework coming up from the floor.

Is there anyone else who's had this problem?

Is there another, thinner kit I can get?

I really can't see a way round this at the moment
