Hey everyone,

purchased a house, and over the last year or so we've noticed that we've had to replace our LED kitchen can lights a few times. There are two switches that control 4 lights each. The same bulb "burned out" for the second time in a few months and then last week one entire set didn't turn on, at first turning on dimly, then eventually not even turning on at all. I unscrewed the switches and the image below is what I found.

I'm not used to seeing switches like this where the wires are plugging into the switch (vs hooked onto the side screws), but needless to say I am very confused as to what is going on here.
The switch on the right-hand side of the picture controls the lights that are not functioning.
Pretty sure the black wire running from the left switch to the right switch is a no-no.
I don't see a ground wire in the box.
I'm thinking I'd like to replace both switches to something I'm a bit more familiar with, like a simple Leviton switch.

Any thoughts or suggestions are helpful!

Generally speaking, it is not wise to use the plughole on the backs of switches. Most often the spring cli-p inside the hole will weaken and start to fail periodically.

I'm not sure what you are saying matches with what I am seeing. I see source power coming into the switch on the right. I see a jumper from the switch on the right to the switch. The red wire on thar switch, is it a traveler(?) . Also switches do not use a neutral (white) unless it is a specialist switch, like a dimmer switch. As of right now, new installation require that a Neutral wire be provided to an outlet if it is need or you have to provide a method of getting a neutral there if you need it. A front picture of the switches would help. Also, does each switch serv a different circuit?

I got a better look at the switch on the left side. Just from the wiring, it appears to be a two way switch. Is there a other switch in the room? If it Iis a w way switch the. BLACK would be source power and red and white would be the "travelers" to adnd from another switch. At another doorway, maybe. It may be as simple as the LEDbulbs are not compatible with those type switches. As in dimmer switches. You need to get LED bulbs that are compatible with your switc types.

Leds have to burn out, otherwise the bulb makers would go out of business. Just buy new ones, this time write a date on the bulb so you know for sure how long is been. At least it's not in the hall...
