Hi

I'm converting the garage, replacing the up and over door with a timber stud wall, behind which will be the shower room. Hanging from the stud wall will be a sink, towel rail and water heater.

I need to make the wall as thin as possible, but able to hang the sink and insulated to regs. It will be inspected by building control...

The architect, chippie and celotex all have different suggestions on how to do this. I'll check with the BCO but my current thinking is:

Cladding t&g
Battens 25x50mm
Vapour barrier
Osb 18mm
Stud wall 100x50mm with 100mm celotex between studs. Pattresses for sink etc.
Celotex 50mm fixed to studs, taped to form vapour barrier
OSB 18mm (to give strength to resist the sink)
Plasterboard 9.5mm (thinner than usual for a wall, but got the OSB behind to reinforce it)

Plumbing will run behind low level behind skirting then up inside stud wall, notching out the noggins.

Does the above look sensible?
Could I dispense with the plasterboard and have OSB plastered...?
Is there an overall better way of doing this?

many thanks
Mark

why not get a company with their own to do everything that way you dont get differing opinions from every contractor you hire

Thanks - I'm just keen to know what people think would be the best practice.

At the end of the day, I may well end up doing this myself.
