Advice on staining or varnishing pine doors, skirting board and banister

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on what finish to use on my pine doors, skirting board and banister in my hallway and landing. I've been reading around on what is best to use but I'm a bit confused about it all. I want a medium dark finish on my woodwork to match my flooring, but what is best to use..varnish..oil..wax..stain??

Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

My personal preference is MinWax for the color and a good quality Polyurethane for the finish coat.
