Unknown Capped PVC Pipe in Basement

I'm tearing down a wall and came across this PVC pipe. I followed it downstairs and saw that it has a rubber cap and is not connected to anything. It only protrudes about 2 or 3 inches from the ceiling. I haven't followed it to the attic yet but was hoping someone could tell me what it's for before I climb up there. Hopefully I can cut it out because it's kind of in the way!

To me it looks like a old air pipe. Conexted to a drain it would provide air and prevent it from backing up
