Removing excess oil from garden furniture

Hello. I do hope someone can offer me some advice.

I washed my hardwood furniture and then treated it with boiled linseed oil. I've done this for five summers now and have never had a problem. I even rubbed off excess oil with a cloth. Unfortunately there are patches which are still sticky and won't dry. The sunshine doesn't seem to be helping, but the patches won't rub off or wash off.

Does anyone have helpful suggestions please?

Thank you.

Hi,

It sounds like you applied the oil too thickly. You could try using denatured alcohol (Methylated Spirits) on a cloth to remove the excess oil patches. Let everythign dry and then apply a new (thin) coat to the whole chair or table.

If that doesn't help, try scraping the excess off with a flat scraper, scrub the area with minreal oil and apply a new coat.

Hope that helps :)
