Prep and Materials - Painting Front Door

First time post for a relatively experienced DIY'er with limited knowledge of painting and decorating. I'm hoping someone can give me a steer on how best to get this job done.

My front door has become worn and I need to pain it, just not sure how to go about it a I'm not really sure what it's made of?! Looks like wood with some kind of coating in places but could as easily be UPVC with wood effect.

Don't want to colour change or anything like that, any idea how I would prep this type of door and the right type of paint to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.
