Plaster table lamp

I really like this plaster lamp in picture.

Could someone explain the best approach to making it?

My first thoughts are - to create a wire frame and then add the plaster strips over and bulk it up?

Would this be a good approach or is there a simpler way to go about this?

Any help will be appreciated

I think your wire frame approach is about right it seems, since the strips looks like they've been wrapped around each strut of the frame. You could even apply plaster onto the wire frame with a brush, then sand it into the shape you desire? The lampshade itself just looks like a big sheet bent around & set!
