Hello All,
I was wondering whether anybody had some advice please.
I am refreshing my bathroom and have successfully changed the basin tap. The waste is more problematic.
I cannot remove the current one:
- it's the old type with a rod
- about 10 years old
- it does not have a large nut at the back, simply some form of black washer and sealant, both disintegrating basically
- the whole waste can be rotated fairly easily within its basin cavity
- My guess is that the top part screws into the bottom part. I slid a large 21/23 spanner into the overflow holes at the top, and tried gripping the bottom with an adjustable, however it doesn't unscrew. Tried WD40.
- I tried cutting at the base with a junior hacksaw to bypass the thread; however the blade did not last long enough really.
I am at a loss on what to do next, except calling a plumber... the bottom thread is a little damaged now and leaks slightly, and the top of the waste a little scratched.
I have attached a couple of photo if that helps (I have now re-placed the plastic pipes)
Thanks,
Thomas
