Hi

While hanging a new lamp shade the fixing dropped out and the wires fell out. There are no markings to show where netural


or the live screw BACK
in can anyone advise and does it matter which way round they go?

Is this a screw in Edison base lamp socket ? Functionally , it will make no difference . But you are correct , the neutral is suppose to go to the screw shell .

If you have an earth ground , check from it to the other 2 wires to find the hot . If not , some neon testers will register a hot if you hold the other test lead . Be careful !
