I recently decided to replace the old tile in my tub/shower with a tub surround.
I took down the old tile and drywall. I put up cement backer board which I now realize might be overkill but it's up and I'm ready to put in the tub surround. I had read that the backer board (or drywall) should only go down to about 1/4" above the outside lip on the tub.
So, now I'm wondering do I need to try to caulk that 1/4" gap at all before putting in the surround or do I just caulk where the surround actually meets the tub and do nothing with that gap?
I also have to cut out for a window and have some gaps there as well (between sill and backer board) and am thinking I should probably caulk them the best I can prior to putting up the surround (after cutting that panel to fit the window).
Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
