With changes in temperature, there can be movement with plasterboard ceiings. Especially where the sheets join each other, leaving hairline cracks.
Usually thicker ceiling paint will cover them, but over years they can return. You could apply a thin bead of white silicone, too thick and it will become as noticeable as the crack.
