Hello, We have had a cold winter here in Texas. I have tried to keep my hose bib in the backyard covered but my husky keeps on ripping it off. I'm concerned that the pipe may have froze and cracked. Would doing a pressure check with pressure gauge be the best way to know if there is damage?

I live in a climate that gets cold.

I know this sounds simple/stupid, but turn the hose bib ON slightly, if it leaks around the valve, it's cracked. Other than a visual inspection, that's all we do.

Next time it comes close to freezing at night, at dusk, turn the hose bib ON to a slow discharge, a few drops a second. This way, the water keeps flowing, and it won't freeze when it's in motion. This only applies to moderate temps below 32deg F. If it drops to 10deg F, you need some auxiliary electric heat.
