Flat bar across 2X6's in basement to keep them from twisting

I am finishing my basement but don't know what to do with this flat, steel bar across my 2 X 6's on all the interior walls. They are to keep the studs from twisting but if I sheet rock over them, there will be a big bow out in the middle of each

wall. Should I just pull it out and put 2 X 6 blocking in instead? What would a contractor do?
