Ceiling Fan Remote

greetings, I recently purchased a Hunter ceiling fan at Lowes to replace a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan that wasp making a ticking noise from the motor. The fan was installed about a year ago and came with an RF remote on-off. After installing the new Hunter fan I noticed on all three speeds it ran very slow. I was told by the sales rep that the Harbor Breeze remote will work work with the Hunter fan, which makes sense as it is simply a RF relay...but does have three speeds. When I removed the receiver at the fan, all three speeds run normal.

Question is, does anyone know if the RF remotes are compatable with any three speed fan motor, or mfr specific?
