If you live near a Lowe's Store and are buying appliances- get one with an extended warranty. The cost is based on the price for the appliance but is very reasonable. A typical extended warranty is 3-5 years. The beauty of this is if you appliance needs repair, and if there is no appliance repair available - The extended warranty will reimburse you for the cost of the appliance.
In other words you get all your money back. Then you can buy another appliance at Lowe's and keep your old appliance. Our GE washer had a problem and since we live in a very rural area- nobody was available. Lowe's gave us full credit and we bought another one with an extended warranty. Same with two different refrigerators, one a Samsung and the other one a whirlpool.
We now have an Amana and keep the whirlpool in the garage. The only problem with the Whirlpool was it would freeze up in the back. No repair outfit available - result new refrigerator.
I don't know about Home Depot but I suspect they operate the same- ask them.
