21.6V Challenger Hammer Drill

I am a useless elderly man who should not partake in anything DIY (LOL)

I have just acquired a used Challenger hammer drill. (I know.....useless battery etc etc!!).

Can anyone kindly explain the 1-2 slide button on the top. It seems to make the drill go faster. What for?

Fast for drilling wood and masonary, slow for steel and screwdriving.
