UK House Conversion to Flats question

So we are thinking about converting a Semi Detached into two flats. We had got the permission from the council to extend a garage and convert that to kitchen/living space, but given the cost of that it maybe better to pay more and go for full conversion which leaves us with separate living accommodation to my mother who would have the other flat. But before contracting an architect, wanted to get some ideas of what might be possible with the property and how the driveway might need to be changed to allow adequate parking.

Attached are the details for the extension, but clearly an architect or experienced builder would maybe know something better in terms of ideas.

It's also worth having an informal discussion with the Planning Dept.

One factor could be nothing to do with parking, and appearance, and spaces etc. If in your area there is a shortage of family houses they will resist. If there's a shortage of 1 - 2 bed flats they won't.
