Some of the rendering has cracked and come away from an exterior wall in our garden, and I wondered if anyone knew;

a) If we just chipped away all the loose rendering and applied a coat of masonry paint over the exposed breeze blocks and brick work, would this be ok to then just cover the wall with a decorative bamboo fence covering

b) If they did have to be re-rendered, what’s involved and is this something a competent diy-er could take on? I’ve laid bricks before but not rendered or plastered!

Many thanks for any tips and guidance,

Cliff

a) sounds good.

b) - you'll still have to remove all the old render, and after that only you will know how good you are at rendering, but as you've not done it before your initial efforts may not be up to scratch. Maybe do it, to see how easy you find it, and to start to develop a new skill, but still plan to hide it with bamboo?
