Slate roof and rendering.

I've got extension roof where some rendering needs to be redone and rest of wall needs repainting. Not been done apart from where I could reach it from windows in the past. Q. How do you get onto a slate roof. Tiles are in v good nick and not too much of a slope. Is it safe to walk on like a normal tile roof. Suggestion re walkboards, scaffold etc. No space to use cherry picker. Not scared to get on roof so long as I dont damage it bit how 2 do it safely??? Cheers.
