A quick question, bought some builders sand to make mortar to lay paving slabs. I have read after that I should use sharp sand to make my mortar. I intend to put about 75 mm of MOT Type 1 as a base, compacting it with a compactor plate. Then placing the slabs on a mortar bed 4:1 sand cement. Do I need sharp sand for this or would the building sand that I have bought be good enough. The slabs are going to be a base for an inflatable hot tub. Would appreciate help/ tips on this. Thanks.

Sharp sand is best, but why not buy some sharp sand and mix 50/50 with the builders sand. You need builders sand to do the pointing anyway.
