Hi

I have removed the carpet from the staircase and want to stain it. It is bare wood which seems in good condition and the house is only about 11 years old. I know I need to sand the wood first, but to make the job easier I would like to use one of those small electric sanders. I know there are different types, can anyone recommend me the best type to do the job. Also, any idea how long it should take to sand and stain the whole staircase, there are 13 steps and risers altogether, going straight up. I just want to know if once started I am getting it right or not.

Thanks

Hi Mellaz
The best sanders are palm sanders. I have an euber one and its excellent, small and gets in the hard to reach places. It should take you a few hours to sand. You will just need to roughen it up a bit, don't go over board.

Let me know if you need more advise.

Cheers
