oiling worktops

I have sanded back an oak worktop, which appeard to have varnish on. Then applied osmo worktop oil. There are patches of pale wood where the oil hasn't absorbed properly, i presume there must be some of the old finish left, although couldn't see any.

Can i sand back the pale patches and re-oil, will it blend in with the rest?

strip back with white spirt sand again hard and then re oil
