New tap for washing machine

Hi, I am a complete novice but am wondering can I deal with the following problem. I have attached what the exact issue is but am struggling to find what tap I should buy to fix the problem. Basically my new larger washing machine is not getting enough water to it and I've been told it's because I have this type of tap this is only sending a trickle through and should replace it for a "proper" tap. Can someone tell me a good tap to get and if it is doable for a novice to change it??

The Whitegoodshelp #3 advice is absolutely correct....what you have won't work.

QUESTIONS:

What size of pipe do you have as the water supply? 1/2" (13mm), or 3/4" (19mm)?

What material is the pipe? Copper, flexible PVC, threaded steel (schedule 40) galvanized pipe?

Does the supply pipe end at the washing machine, or does it carry on to supply water to additional downstream taps?

I assume that you most likely have 15mm cold water pipe at mains pressure, and that what you have is one of these DIY type of taps which clamp onto the pipe and puncture it, making a small hole in the pipe, which only provides a limited flow rate:

With high mains pressure and a small machine that 'bodge', (which is what these gizmos are), might provide enough water flow, but from what you say, your new larger machine needs a greater flow rate, so the tap that you have would need to be removed, the punctured section of the copper pipe cut out, and a compression Tee such as this one fitted:

15mm compression tee:

Into the branch of that Tee, a short length of 15mm copper pipe would be needed, and depending on the layout of the space you have available, you would need either a right angled full bore 15mm compression tap such as this one to attach to the end of the pipe:

Right angled:

Or a straight 15mm tap such as this one:

Since you say 'you are a complete novice' it sounds like a job for a plumber. (About half an hour's work).

Hope that helps.

David.
