Hi there
My contract with EE has come to an end and therefore I need to update the system, currently the cable comes via the pole on the high street overhead to the house and then into the router,

with the new system I am being told that the cable will now have to be routed around the outside of the house to the router

my question is can the cable be brought into the loft and the new router connected to it

My first question would be why does it have to be wrapped around your house where currently it does not. Reason to ask is due to grounding. It has to be earth grounded within a few feet of touching your home. Make sure that they are grounding it properly as your equipment could be damaged as a result.

But to answer your question, you can connect the router to wherever there is an active coax connection to your ISP.

Thanks for the reply, at the moment the cable comes into the house via an over head cable, and then via the copper wire into the router,
A neat solution, therefore if I could do the same with the router in the loft that would work, the real issue is if the engineer would go into the loft space.

What company is it and where are you located? The overhead cable is still a coaxial cable, most likely RG6 quad shield with a messenger wire on it to be able to tie it to the house. Then from the ground point, it is should still be the same cable sans messenger wire.

If you're wanting to keep router where it is, then you certainly have that right. I suspect that someone is overselling you something that isn't necessary, just to make more money off you

It’s EE and near Cambridge, currently have fibre to the cabinet, this new cable brings it directly to the property with down load speed up to 120
