Gas cooker connection

I need to disconnect the bayonet fitting on the gas pipe to move the cooker to fix floor beneath then reconnect. The plumber who installed the cooker advised not to disconnect as on reconnection there could be air in the gas pipe that might cause problems. Comment please!
