Door hinges

I have a door where the screws in the hinges won't hold. I've tried dowels and wall plugs without any joy. Any other suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by trying dowels? did you drill out the holes and glue some dowels in? sounds like that would work.

try pushing some matchsticks or splinters into the screw holes.

is the door particularly heavy?
