Hi all,

So I have a clogged kitchen sink again, it happens every now and then and in the past I would just pour declogger down the pipes however I got chatting with my wife's friends husband who is a plumber and he said that should not do this as it can really damage the pipes due to the chemicals, he said it was better to do it mechanically with a snaker.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Yeh this is a pretty common debate in the plumbing world. In my opinion your wife's friend is probably right although I do find that it is a very cautious stance to have on this but if you want to be safe then take his advice.

Also another reason many plumbers don't recommend them is because often they just pierce a hole through the centre of the clog and not completely remove it, this may explain why you have recurring clogs in your kitchen sink.
