Hi just a quicky. Just bought a new waste for a bathroom basin and there is no washer between the top of the basin and the waste although there is one for the the underside between the basin and the fixing nut. Instructions just say use a bit of silicone. Is this the modern way as I haven't changed one in quite a while. Thanks.

Forget silicon. Go with plumbers putty. It has been doing a good job for decades and I see no reason to change now.
