The other day I was reading the obituary of the guy who designed the Stanley Knife.
He used to go out in a boat with his sons, fishing.
One time they realised that despite the outboard running fine, the boat wasn't making any progress.
A quick inspection showed that the propellor had fallen off.
"That's alright, boys,", he cried, "I'll make another one".
So with the Stanley Knife he always carried, he set to on the piece of driftwood they used to wind the fishing twine around, and within an hour he'd carved a new prop.
Unfortunately he'd got the pitch wrong, and the boat went backwards, but nevertheless it worked and they were able to get safely back to shore.
