Weather Proofing help

Hello!

I have these two chairs.

They are going to be placed on a very well covered patio and only need some protection for when it storms.
I was thinking of just using a clear exterior stain on the wood and the weather proof spray, but my mother thinks I need to worry about the padding molding.

Any suggestions?

Your mother is correct if your outdoor weather conditions have a average outdoor relative humidity higher than the indoor conditions.

And there is one more consideration; those look to be a perfect place for mice to build a nest to raise babies.
