My mum got some decking done on her balcony. I’m out of country buy from photos she sent (attached) the job doesn’t seem well done. The screw holes seems all splintered and the joins rough. I still owe tradesman 50% but not sure whether I should get him back to do a better job? All views appreciated.

I think it's rubbish. Maybe the countersink bit was blunt.

The "old fashioned" bits worked better than modern ones.

I wouldn't have tried to drill between the gaps, that's why there's splintering. I'd have gone through the raised sections.

I'd get him back. Possibly the only solution is to clean up the holes and fill them. But it is not a quick job.

Hi,

At a guess I'd say he used a standard twist bit rather than a countersink bit? It won't look as bad with countersunk screws driven home?

Kind regards, Colin.
