Trex Select Stairs

I'm getting ready to build stairs for my deck using Trex Select decking. The product instructions claim that the stair stringers must be 9" on center. If I understand this correctly, I would need 7 stringers for 48" wide stairs? Has anyone built Trex Select stairs? Must they really be this stout?
