Thinning nitrocellulose lacquer

Hi, can I use ordinary white spirit to thin nitrocellulose lacquer rather cellulose thinners? The virus means I'm stuck at home and all DIY shops are shut and I only have white spirit . Cheers.

it will work, but from what I’ve looked at, apparently the manufacturers don’t recommend for what may be a probable good reason.
